OiEau’s Solutions & Know-how: Coordination of multi-partner and multi-theme projects

Published on 04/23/26

For over 35 years, the International Water Office (OiEau) has been supporting public and private sector stakeholders in the sustainable management of water resources. Recognised as a public utility and accredited in the field of ‘Environmental Protection’, the association draws on independent expertise to design, structure and manage complex projects with significant social, environmental and economic impact.

Against a backdrop of increasing climate, regulatory and territorial challenges, the success of water-related projectsdepends on effective coordination, a shared vision and the ability to bring together a wide range of partners. OiEau addresses these challenges by offering comprehensive support, from design through to the dissemination of results, incorporating technical, institutional and human dimensions.

Structuring and managing complex projects

Water-related projects are now part of multi-scale, multi-stakeholder processes involving local authorities, institutions, researchers, businesses and citizens. This complexity calls for a rigorous approach capable of reconciling sometimes conflicting objectives whilst ensuring the overall coherence of actions.

The challenges are manifold: responding to demanding calls for proposals, securing funding, coordinating international partners, ensuring precise technical and financial monitoring, and guaranteeing the impact of actions on the ground. Added to this is the need to make the results accessible, understandable and usable by all stakeholders.

In this context, OiEau brings recognised expertise to structuring projects, ensuring their successful implementation and maximising their reach, drawing on a proven methodology and in-depth knowledge of institutional and technical ecosystems.

An integrated approach to support every stage of the project

OiEau is involved throughout the entire project lifecycle, offering a comprehensive and coherent range of services.

At the initial stage, its experts assist with the structuring of project proposals, carrying out feasibility studies, identifying relevant partners and organising responses to calls for proposals. This phase lays a solid foundation, aligned with the objectives and capabilities of the stakeholders involved.

During implementation, OiEau ensures coordination and operational monitoring by setting up management tools, managing contracts and providing technical and financial reporting to donors. This rigour guarantees the transparency, compliance and effectiveness of projects.

Practical projects supporting local communities and innovation

OiEau implements strategic, institutional, technical and scientific projects at all levels, providing tailored solutions across every continent.

In France, the Explore 2 project illustrates OiEau’s ability to make complex scientific data accessible to the general public. This programme updates knowledge on the impact of climate change on hydrology up to 2100 and supports local authorities in applying the findings to inform their decisions.

At European level, the Life Water&Climate project, coordinated by OiEau, supports local stakeholders in integrating the effects of climate change into water management. It combines the production of recommendations, the organisation of training courses and the dissemination of operational tools.

The NATALIE project demonstrates OiEau’s commitment to Nature-based Solutions. By mobilising 42 partners and developing demonstration sites, it offers innovative solutions to strengthen resilience to climate change.

In the spirit of international cooperation, the Peer-to-Peer project promotes the exchange of experiences between river basin organisations worldwide, helping to disseminate best practices in integrated water resource management.

Finally, initiatives such as BIO-PLATEAUX demonstrate OiEau’s ability to coordinate complex cross-border projects, strengthening collaborative watershed management and involving local communities in governance.

Thanks to its multidisciplinary expertise and its ability to bring together a wide range of stakeholders, OiEau has established itself as a trusted partner for coordinating multi-stakeholder and multi-thematic projects.

Its integrated approach ensures that every stage of a project is managed effectively, maximises its impact and guarantees its long-term sustainability. By combining methodological rigour, innovation and commitment, OiEau helps transform water-related challenges into opportunities for sustainable development.

By providing long-term support to regions, institutions and organisations, OiEau plays an active role in developing concrete, tailored and replicable solutions that promote more efficient, collaborative and resilient water management.

FAQ

Coordination of multi-partner and multi-thematic projects: find out more

OiEau is involved in a wide range of projects, including European programmes, international initiatives, regional projects, and research and innovation initiatives. These projects may focus on water management, climate change adaptation, Nature-based Solutions, or river basin governance, across various geographical scales.

Dissemination involves sharing the results of a project with its target audiences (policy-makers, practitioners, researchers and members of the public). It aims to make knowledge accessible, promote its uptake and encourage its reuse in other contexts. This can be achieved through publications, training courses, digital tools or events.

A multi-partner, multi-thematic project brings together various organisations (local authorities, institutions, businesses, research centres, etc.) around shared objectives, whilst drawing on a range of expertise (technical, scientific, institutional and social). This type of project enables complex challenges to be addressed by combining different skills, but requires rigorous coordination to ensure consistency in actions and the achievement of results.
