The project in brief

The action supports River Basin Organisations (RBOs) in the implementation of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM), Multilateral Environmental Agreements and appropriate measures to respond to increasing pressures and climate change.

Basin organisations can benefit from the experience of their peers to improve legal, institutional, organisational and technical issues more quickly and effectively. The target group, and ultimate beneficiaries, are basin organisation practitioners, both existing and new basin organisations, particularly those established in the context of the implementation of the UNECE Water Convention.

OiEau's missions

OiEau, the secretariat of INBO (International Network of Basin Organisations), is responsible for implementing the action to achieve two specific objectives:

  • Exchanges between peers and partnerships, gradually set up between basin organisations on the basis of a new effective mechanism;
  • The development of the expertise and capacities of basin organisations in the thematic areas of IWRM (using the EU directives and the principles of the 1992 United Nations Convention as useful references).
