World Wetlands Day 2024

World Wetlands Day is celebrated on 2 February. For 2024, the theme is "Wetlands, sources of human well-being". OiEau, an approved environmental protection association, is working through its various missions to improve wetland management.
Protection against floods, droughts, storms; sources of food, drinking water... wetlands are sources of human well-being, the central theme of World Wetlands Day 2024.
OiEau, through its expertise in leading stakeholder networks, is committed to raising awareness among decision-makers and the general public of the importance of preserving wetlands.
In collaboration with the French Office for Biodiversity (OFB), OiEau runs the wetlands resource centre, organising awareness-raising events and technical meetings, producing documentary and scientific resources to improve understanding of wetlands, and coordinating the network of wetland managers.
In this context, a webinar is being organised on 9 February from 10am to 12pm, devoted to the new version of the national method for assessing wetland functions. This discussion will be enriched by testimonials from organisations that have implemented the method.
Summaries of previous webinars are also available online (only in french), covering key issues such as funding and wetland monitoring.
Episode 7 of the The Little Streams podcast (only in french), dedicated to nature-based solutions, gives the floor to Jean-Michel Fabre, elected member of the Haute-Garonne departmental council, on the management of a departmental wetlands conservatory.
World Wetlands Day, proclaimed in 2021 by the United Nations General Assembly on 2 February to mark the anniversary of the signing of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands in Iran, will be celebrated throughout February with a programme of events across France and the world.
