World Development Information Day - OiEau has been committed to sustainable water and biodiversity management for nearly 35 years
Every year on 24 October, the World Development Information Day reminds us of the importance of international cooperation and access to information in meeting the challenges of sustainable development.
On this Day, OiEau reminds us that access to information and training are essential levers for meeting the challenges of water and biodiversity management. Through its projects, tools and networks, OiEau actively contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and SDG 15 (Life on Land).
OiEau: a key player in water and biodiversity
Created in 1991 and recognised as a public utility, OiEau works in France, Europe and around the world to develop the skills and tools necessary for sustainable water management. Its missions focus on training, cooperation, institutional and technical support, and the establishment of information systems and networks of stakeholders.
A knowledge base for water and biodiversity
One of OiEau's flagship projects is the Water & Biodiversity Knowledge Base. Developed in partnership with the French Biodiversity Agency, this platform offers free access to a wealth of resources: texts, webinars, podcasts, infographics and data sets.
It allows citizens, technicians, decision-makers and journalists to search for information by keyword or via an artificial intelligence-based chatbot, thus guaranteeing neutral, high-quality information that is accessible to all.
INBO handbooks: practical solutions for water management
OiEau also contributes to the dissemination of the INBO handbooks (International Network of Basin Organisations, for which OiEau provides the Technical Secretariat).
These handbooks, available free of charge in several languages, offer case studies and concrete feedback to address the strategic, operational, legal and technical challenges of water management. They are intended for public authorities, experts, basin organisations and project leaders.
Webinars and awareness raising
OiEau regularly organises webinars to address crucial topics such as reconciling territorial development and the biocapacity of territories, or using the media to communicate about wetlands.
These events bring together public, private and institutional stakeholders, promoting the sharing of experiences and the search for collective solutions.
Training and innovation: drivers for sustainable development
OiEau offers a catalogue of training courses with over 350 modules covering some 20 topics related to water, sanitation and the environment.
These training courses, delivered in person or remotely, are aimed at a diverse audience: operators, consulting firms, manufacturers, elected officials and institutional actors. They enable participants to acquire or strengthen essential skills for the efficient and sustainable management of water resources.
