OiEau was heavily involved in documenting the debate on a wide range of issues relating to the implementation of fair, efficient and sustainable integrated water resource management at the 10th World Water Forum, held in Bali (Indonesia) from 18 to 25 May, on the theme of "Water for Shared Prosperity".

Several thousand participants from more than 100 countries met in Bali to discuss and debate the management of water resources, a common good that is being strongly impacted by climate change on every continent.
OiEau, whose general interest missions are in line with the major international environmental objectives, such as the Sustainable Development Goals and the Aïchi Goals on biodiversity, was keen to share its knowledge and the solutions it offers.
Thus, in a spirit of neutrality and general interest, the OiEau delegation of experts organised sessions on key issues linked to our 4 main areas of expertise:
- Data and information systems as decision-making tools.
- Training for all players (institutional players, public and private operators, technicians, managers, elected representatives, industrialists, water and health agencies, etc.) to help practices and uses evolve, by improving knowledge and know-how.
- Support and cooperation, to help implement institutional and technical initiatives, from local to cross-border catchment areas, that promote concerted, partnership-based water management.
- Coordinating stakeholder networks to encourage the sharing of analyses and practices.
As the permanent technical secretariat of the International Network of Basin Organisations, OiEau coordinated the high-level political segment, a day dedicated to basin management, attended by leading figures from a wide range of countries. This was a symbolic opportunity to launch two important initiatives.
The "Twin Basin Initiative", an international programme for the exchange of experience and capacity-building between peers working on water resource management at basin level. The Bali Coalition for Training in the Water Sector.
The new handbook "Transfer of waste and plastics in aquatic environments", published to help understand and act on this global challenge, was previewed in Bali. Published in 4 languages (French, English, Spanish and Chinese), it is available free of charge here.
