United Nations Water Conference 2023: INBO and OiEau events

Published on 03/20/23

Since its creation, OiEau has had expertise in the animation of stakeholders' networks, institutional support and knowledge sharing as decision-making tools in the water sector. In this respect, OiEau, through the International Network of Basin Organizations (INBO) for which it is the Permanent Technical Secretariat, participates in the United Nations Water Conference 2023.

The United Nations Water Conference 2023 is a major event which will take place from 22 to 24 March 2023 in New-York. This conference will be an opportunity for water stakeholders to come together to discuss the challenges and opportunities related to water management on a global scale.

In this context, OiEau and INBO are collaborating in the organisation of three events, which will take place at the UN in the margin of the official discussions, and one outside of the UN headquarters :

  • Wednesday 22 March, 12:30pm - 1: 45pm: "Sustainability in good governance of groundwater resources" Carried by the Kingdom of Morocco

How can we bring attention to groundwater at the highest international level and promote the sharing of experiences for the responsible and sustainable use and protection of these water resources?

The event will highlight the commitments made for the launch of the new Transboundary Water Cooperation Coalition.

The 2023 United Nations Water Conference is a rare event, as the last time it was held in this format was in 1977! OiEau therefore approaches it as a historical opportunity to defend its messages and promote its expertise. All OiEau's teams are mobilised to "develop the skills" needed to better manage water and achieve the United Nations' sustainable development objectives. We can contribute to accelerating transformations by training more people, by disseminating good practices for sharing information, building local or national public policies, by better linking all human uses of water with better preservation of aquatic ecosystems.
