The project in brief

The Mouhoun Water Agency (MWA) and the Seine-Normandy Water Agency (SNWA) signed in 2013 and renewed in 2017 a cooperation agreement that aims to strengthen exchange and technical cooperation in the field of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) and decentralised cooperation.

The support programme aims at the following main results :

  • Mutualisation of the experiences of the AEM and the AESN at the level of a priority territory,
  • Articulation with the initiatives of regional, national and international actors (notably decentralised cooperation actors),
  • Facilitating the sharing of skills and the local relay via a coupling of Burkinabe and French expertise (pair of experts),
  • Sub-regional activities to consolidate the sharing of experiences on IWRM mechanisms in West Africa (floods, drought, preservation of ecosystems, sustainable financing mechanisms),
  • Capacity building and communication on the project with experts from the WEA General Management, members of the Local Water Committees, as well as members of the Basin Committee and the Board of Directors.

OiEau's missions

Through capacity building and technical assistance, the support is declined in a transversal way around the IWRM issues on the priority territory:

  • Elaboration and implementation of the Samendéni-Sourou SAGE,
  • Mobilisation of the stakeholders of the Basin Committees and Local Water Committees,
  • Management of water knowledge,
  • Sustainable financing mechanisms.
