United Nations Day: OiEau's contribution to achieving UN SDG 6
United Nations Day is celebrated on 24 October, the anniversary of the creation of the world organisation in 1945. It's an opportunity for us to highlight the actions taken by our association to help achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
In 2015, all the Member States of the United Nations adopted 17 sustainable development goals that cover the full range of development issues in all countries.
2023 is a milestone year. It marks the halfway point towards the deadline of 2030 for achieving these goals. Thanks to its 4 complementary areas of expertise, OiEau is contributing to the achievement of SDG 6, which aims to "guarantee access to water and sanitation for all and ensure sustainable management of water resources":
- By participating in the implementation of actions at different levels (from local to cross-border) thanks to its expertise in Support & Cooperation.
- By facilitating the sharing of information, tools and experience on common themes, thanks to its expertise in Networking of water stakeholders.
- By collecting and processing data that can then be used as a genuine decision-making tool, thanks to its Data & Information Systems expertise.
- By enabling nearly 6,000 people each year to improve their skills in a wide variety of areas, including drinking water and wastewater treatment, thanks to its Training & Educational Engineering expertise.
This year was also marked by the United Nations Water Conference. OiEau, through the International Network of Basin Organisations (INBO), for which it is the Permanent Technical Secretariat, co-organised three workshops.
