Since its creation, data management and the development of knowledge and information systems related to water and its related fields have been a central focus of OiEau's expertise, in order to promote better management of our water resources.
In accordance with its missions and statutes, OiEau provides free access to key figures on a national, European and international scale, in particular via the chiffrecle.oieau.fr french website.
Each datum is accompanied by metadata specifying its source, author, date of update and history.
The theme of our current infographic? Waste management, but also the good things we can do on a daily basis to preserve the balance of our planet and encourage biodiversity!
Waste management is an important part of preserving our water resources, particularly by reducing the pressure on our environment and natural resources.
Face to the environmental and economic challenges that waste represents, regulations and measures aimed at reducing waste production and promoting its recycling or reuse have been put in place and are continually being strengthened, both in France and internationally.
OiEau, which has been certified as an ‘Environmental Protection’ organisation by the French Ministry of the Environment since 2022, works daily to protect the environment through its 4 complementary areas of expertise:
In terms of skills development, OiEau trains waste and circular economy professionals via some twenty training courses, covering collection, storage, treatment and service management, either face-to-face, on site or remotely.
Since sharing experience is essential for promoting and disseminating good practice, OiEau's pioneering expertise lies in coordinating and developing stakeholder networks. In particular, it manages the Permanent Technical Secretariat of the International Network of Basin Organisations, which has completed its collection of Handbooks with a new methodological guide on the transfer of waste and plastics into aquatic environments. Case studies, testimonials and recommendations are all available here!
In this context, OiEau has also developed the REGARD network, in collaboration with Cèdre, the aim of which is to support local authorities and stakeholders in the basin in implementing actions to reduce emissions of plastic macro-waste from urban networks.
But OiEau also has a long history of expertise in support and cooperation, enabling it to implement institutional and technical actions at all administrative and territorial levels in France and abroad.
For example, OiEau is responsible for communicating about the renovation and modernisation of Limoges Métropole's main wastewater treatment plant, particularly the energy aspect, with a more energy-efficient process and the recovery of the biogas produced.
Alongside INSA Toulouse & CHEMDOC Water technologies, it also manages the European ZEUS project, which aims to achieve Zero Liquid Discharge in the agri-food industry, i.e. to demonstrate the technical and economic feasibility of a total recycling solution for water and dissolved compounds, at the MONIN plant in Bourges.
