It is with great enthusiasm and pride that OiEau is associated with a very important event in space hydrology, the launch of SWOT (Surface Water Ocean Topography), the first space mission that will study almost all the water on the Earth's surface!

SWOT is the latest addition to a satellite altimetry programme jointly developed by the French space agency (CNES) and the US civil space agency (NASA).

Since its creation in 2014, the SWOT space hydrology working group has been led by OiEau, which has always placed innovation at the heart of its practices.

Composed of French research, institutional, technical and operational actors such as CNES, IRD, AFD, IRSTEA, BRLi, CNR et CLS, this group was created in order to reconcile technical, scientific and user needs visions concerning satellite data useful for water management.

For nearly 10 years, these actors have been pooling their work to promote the implementation of innovative technologies and know-how.

Together, they have prepared this SWOT (Surface Water and Ocean Topography) mission, a future satellite dedicated to collecting altimetry data.
