The 2026 EuroMediterranean Water Forum
Issues, objectives, themes, etc.
With the Mediterranean basin becoming increasingly vulnerable to climate change, characterised by water stress already affecting more than 180 million people and a rise in extreme events, the Euro-Mediterranean Water Forum serves as a forum for strategic dialogue and concerted action, bringing together all stakeholders: policy-makers, economic actors, civil society and the scientific community.
Its aim? To provide structural solutions to the ‘water trilemma’ that characterises the region – namely scarcity, abundance and pollution – by charting a common path to ensure water security in the Mediterranean by 2050.
The Forum’s programme is structured around eleven thematic sessions, all designed to serve this shared vision. Each session is designed to address a specific and strategic aspect of this global challenge, ranging from the management of water scarcity and climate-related disasters to financing mechanisms, technological development and hydrodiplomacy.
A day dedicated to the Basins
As part of the Euro-Mediterranean Water Forum, the International Network of Basin Organisations (INBO), whose permanent technical secretariat is provided by the International Office for Water, is joining forces with the Italian One Water Committee to co-organise a day entirely dedicated to river basins on 1 October 2026.
