Waste & Circular Economy: find out about OiEau's actions during the European Week for Waste Reduction

"The best waste is the one we don't produce!"
Every year, local authorities, businesses, schools, associations and individuals get together to promote eco-responsible waste-reduction practices during the European Week for Waste Reduction. The 2023 event is focusing on the theme of "Packaging: sobriety before recycling", with a view to tackling the problem at source.
Face to climate change and its ever-increasing consequences, the over-exploitation and waste of our resources must be replaced by a circular economy that is more sober, virtuous and respectful of the environment.
Approved by the French Ministry for the Environment since 2022, the International Office for Water works daily to protect the environment through its 4 complementary areas of expertise:
Training & Skills
OiEau provides face-to-face training in Limoges, on site or by distance learning for waste and circular economy professionals in around twenty courses covering collection, storage, treatment and service management.
Julie Reynaud, Research and Training Officer at OiEau, presents these training courses on video (in french):
Knowledge, data and information systems
OiEau's permanent multilingual experts provide support to its partners and customers, covering the entire data value chain, so that data can be produced and used more effectively. Designed to meet knowledge and decision-making needs, OiEau develops monitoring, summaries, data visualisations, document management solutions and more.
Take, for example, the french exploratory summary produced in 2023 by Anne-Paule Mettoux-Petchimoutou, Research and Project Manager at OiEau, entitled "The management of aquatic waste in watercourses".
Networking of water stakeholders
Everyday, OiEau interacts with a large number of partners and customers with varied profiles, and has thus developed a large-scale French and international network in all areas, particularly waste and the circular economy. As part of this, it is responsible for coordinating or acting as technical secretariat for around ten communities in the world of water and the environment in general.
This is the case, for example, of the International Network of Basin Organisations, whose technical secretariat is managed by OiEau. And to complete the collection of "INBO Manuals", the INBO Secretariat is producing a new methodological guide on the transfer of waste and plastics into aquatic environments. Case studies, testimonials and recommendations: don't hesitate to send in your contributions!
Support & Cooperation
OiEau's experts work in more than 80 countries to support its customers and partners, particularly industrialists, in implementing institutional and technical actions for integrated, sustainable, ecosystem-based and innovative water management, at all scales, in France and internationally.
With this in mind, OiEau has joined forces with the Toulouse Institut National des Sciences Appliquées, Chemdoc and Monin to launch the ZEUS project in early 2022, which aims to be a key lever for action to promote the circular economy and preserve water resources in the agri-food industry. Its aim is to make the most of unconventional water in food processing plants, considerably reduce water consumption by reusing treated wastewater on the industrial site, and provide a full-scale demonstration of "zero water discharge".
