A podcast on planted filter sanitation in tropical island environments

Published on 03/19/24

Issue de Secours / Smart Island is a podcast about how tropical islands are adapting to the consequences of climate change.

It presents experiments and projects by scientific, cultural, economic and social associations and local players who are working every day to rethink island life.

One episode is devoted to wastewater treatment using plant filters. Hosted by Virginie Clérima, project manager at the Office International de l'Eau in Martinique, we discover a 500 m² filter to the north of Fort-de-France, capable of treating the wastewater from a large housing estate. This pilot project is designed to test planted filters for wastewater treatment on several Caribbean islands.
