Key figure: a new weekly appointment of OiEau!

Published on 03/10/23

Every week, on Wednesdays, OiEau invites you to understand an environmental topic through key figures. Provided by our "Information and Knowledge" Unit, this synthetic and relevant information, related to a current topic, will illustrate in a concrete way one of the values advocated by our association, recognized as being of public utility and approved for "Environmental Protection", to work for the production and sharing of knowledge, essential tool for better water management.

Since its creation, OiEau has placed data management, knowledge enhancement and information systems on water and related topics at the heart of its expertise. After having worked on paper document collections, OiEau is now developing and using innovative technologies, including artificial intelligence.

Our objective? To produce and disseminate freely on the Internet, scientifically reliable and educational information for public and private stakeholders and citizens, to contribute to mobilising for better water management in France and in the world.

Sophie COMTE, Coordinator of the OiEau Information and Knowledge Unit, tells you more about these key figures that you will discover, as the weeks go by.

The preparation of the key figures follows an editorial charter to ensure the consistency and quality of their production. It formalises the criteria that define the orientation of the content, as well as the editorial rules.

They are written and published by OiEau, with the financial support of the French Office for Biodiversity (OFB) and are prepared according to the information detected thanks to regular monitoring by our experts. The stages of their production are as follows:

  1. Entering the key figure and associated information.
  2. Verification of the reliability of the input and of the reuse rights.
  3. Possible exchanges with the author in case of error.
  4. Publication of the information entered.

Notification of the author organisation and the publisher. They correspond to ten themes and have been included on the new Water France portal for a year.

These key figures should help share information on water with the general public.

In 2023, about forty key figures will be produced, based on OiEau's production but also highlighting figures from recognised partner organisations in the field of water and the environment (ministries, State services, public institutions, associations, etc.).

Among the topics dealt with, we can already mention nature-based solutions, biodiversity in urban areas, human impact on the marine environment in France, internationally, etc. They will evolve according to current events.
