BIO-PLATEAUX II - Initiative for Cross-Border Coordination of Water and Biodiversity
The project in brief
The collaborative work initiated during the first phase of the BIO-PLATEAUX project (2019-2022) identified specific needs in the Maroni and Oyapock transboundary watersheds.
The second phase of the project is carrying out concrete activities to address these priorities in various areas:
- Support for the governance of transboundary watersheds,
- Preparation of permanent decision-making bodies and mechanisms for each of the watersheds,
- Facilitation of networks of technical actors,
- Strengthening watershed monitoring systems (instrumentation for hydrometric monitoring and quality monitoring),
- Innovation for knowledge (spatial hydrology for rainfall monitoring, spatial altimetry, modelling, and quality monitoring),
- Water information systems,
- Awareness-raising and educational activities with schools in the watersheds,
- Regional coordination with the creation of local participatory bodies (COTTICA on the Maroni),
- Planning (watershed characterisation stage).
