Success for the first technical day of the REGARD network

As part of the REGARD Network, which deals with the fight against macro-waste in urban water networks, a first Technical Day was organised in Saumur on 27 March, at the invitation of Saumur Agglo (CASVL).
The theme was raising awareness of macro-waste in urban water networks.
With the presence of waste in aquatic and marine environments becoming a cause for concern, often associated with pollution by plastic-related micropollutants, this Day provided an opportunity to share feedback from local authorities and present existing tools.
The next Technical Day will take place at the end of 2025 and will focus more on waste characterisation.
Co-financed by the Loire-Bretagne Water Agency and coordinated by Cedre and OiEau, the REGARD network supports local authorities in their efforts to combat plastic macro-waste from local sanitation systems in the Loire-Bretagne basin.
A handbook on the transfer of waste and plastics into aquatic environments

In response to the alarming finding that 80% of marine litter comes from land-based activities, a handbook on the transfer of waste and plastics into aquatic environments has been produced by INBO, with support from OFB and in partnership with PFD, ISWA and AFD. It raises awareness and informs not only those involved in the protection of aquatic ecosystems and waste management, but also a wider audience, so that they can make informed decisions and take concrete action together.
