Leakage detection, a resilience stake in the face of climate change

For 30 years, OiEau has been working to address the issue of leakage in water networks, on a small and large scale, in a context of climate change and increased pressure on water resources. Through its training offer and technical support, OiEau helps the professionals of the sector to detect leaks and reduce water losses.
On the occasion of a news report on leaks in the Limousin drinking water network made by a french national TV channel, France 3 Limousin, Marc-Yvan LAROYE, Sales, Marketing and Communication Director, and Olivier VIEU, trainer, at OiEau, were asked to answer their journalists' questions on the state of the water resource in Limoges and on the leak detection techniques in which OiEau's partners and customers are trained. OiEau's Training Centre provides trainees with unique teaching platforms in Europe, at its sites in Limoges and La Souterraine, including a teaching platform for laying drinking water pipes, an experimental network and equipment for pipe detection and leak detection.
For practical training, the centre has a whole range of equipment among the most commonly used by operators (loggers, correlation, ground listening, hydrophone, mobile hydrophone, tracer gas, pipe detection by passive/active signal, etc.), enabling the following skills to be acquired :
- Learning the strategy for improving network performance
- Understanding how the different pipe detection and leak detection techniques work
- Implementation of pipe detection and leak detection techniques on an in-service network
- Maintenance and management of equipment
OiEau offers several training courses on pipe network maintenance and leak detection, presented in the training catalogue and on its website (in french), such as :
- Leak detection and underground piping
- Leak testing in sewerage networks
- Network performance improvement: strategy and organisation
- Operation of drinking water networks
- Inspection, testing and trials of sewerage networks
