The water development and management scheme (SAGE) is a planning tool, instituted by the 1992 water law, aimed at the balanced and sustainable management of water resources.
It aims to reconcile the satisfaction and development of different uses (drinking water, industry, agriculture, etc.) and the protection of aquatic environments, taking into account the specific characteristics of a territory.
Delimited according to natural criteria, it concerns a river basin or a water table. It is based on a voluntary process of consultation with local stakeholders.
