Detecting buried networks: a percussion device to detect plastic networks

Published on 09/06/23

The OiEau training centre has new network detection equipment, specifically for plastic networks (HDPE and PVC).

This device complements the other equipment used during training courses in Limoges and La Souterraine.

This device is based on the injection of sound, by percussion, on the network to be located. Combined with a ground listening device and an Android application for processing the sound, it captures the signal emitted and determines the position of the pipe in question.

A graphical display can be used to interpret the sounds heard, making it easier to position the network. The device can be used by non-expert operators and is particularly suitable for detecting networks where traditional detection methods are not effective.

This equipment will be used primarily for the "Searching for leaks and buried pipes", "Improving network efficiency: strategy and organisation" and "Operating drinking water networks" courses.

The OiEau Training Centre for Water Professions provides trainees with a wide range of equipment dedicated to leak detection and pipe detection.
This equipment completes the range that trainees use during the courses for network detection (electromagnetic detection, pipe markers, needles, probes, striker, solenoid valve, etc.).
