Resilient, concerted water management must help to meet the major challenges of water sobriety, availability and quality.
Each year, the French Biodiversity Agency's Observatory of Public Water and Sanitation Services publishes a Panorama of the organisation and performance of drinking water and sanitation services in France.
The key figures presented here are taken from the 2023 edition, based on data from 2021.
Created in 2009, the French Water and Sanitation Public Services Observatory provides national online access to data on the organisation, management and performance of public drinking water and sanitation services in France.
This annual study is based on data supplied directly by local authorities on the pricing, financial management, quality of drinking water and asset management of drinking water and sanitation Public Services.
These data enable an objective, recognised and shared assessment of the quality of the service provided to users.
For more than 30 years, through training, data processing and information systems, technical and institutional support/cooperation, and coordination of stakeholder networks, OiEau has been supporting local authorities and operators of water and sanitation services in this area, which is at the heart of health, economic, social, technical and environmental issues.
For example, OiEau offers newsletters, tools for financial analysis and forecasting (PROSPEREAU) and personalised support for the transfer of skills to local authorities, etc.
At the International Office for Water, we offer a large number of training courses on this subject. One example is the SK051 course, which deals with the annual report and performance indicators for water and sanitation services. Other courses on this topic include SK083 on drinking water, sanitation and hygiene (EPAH-WASH) in developing countries, and SK054 on drinking water and sanitation project management.
